One of the most common things women say to me before booking a maternity shoot is
“I’m nervous, I don’t usually like being photographed.”
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Pregnancy is emotional, your body is changing, and the idea of stepping in front of a camera can feel daunting. My job is to make sure it doesn’t feel that way at all.
A maternity photoshoot should feel calm, supportive, and unrushed. From the moment you walk into my studio, everything is designed to help you relax and simply enjoy the experience.
My studio is warm, private, and intentionally quiet. Clients often tell me there is a calm, relaxing energy as soon as they walk in, and that means everything to me.
There’s no pressure to perform and no rush to get everything done quickly. We take things at your pace, with plenty of time to sit down, breathe, and ease into the session.
You’re welcome to take breaks whenever you need them. If you’re feeling tired, emotional, or just need a moment, that’s completely fine.
You don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera. I take care of all of that for you.
I guide you through the whole session, showing you exactly where to stand, where to place your feet, what to do with your hands, and how to gently turn your body or your head. Everything is done in a relaxed way, with simple direction that feels natural and comfortable.
Most of the time, you don’t even need to look at the camera. My focus is on creating soft, natural images that feel like you, without anything feeling stiff or forced.
One thing that really helps women relax is being able to see their images on the back of the camera as we go.
I often show you a few photographs during the session so you can see just how beautiful you look. That moment usually brings a smile, a bit of relief, and a boost of confidence. It helps you trust the process and enjoy the experience even more.
Choosing what to wear is often one of the biggest worries. That’s why I have a carefully chosen maternity wardrobe available in the studio.
These dresses are designed to flatter your shape, highlight your bump, and feel comfortable to wear. You don’t need to go shopping or stress about whether something will suit you. We can choose outfits together on the day, based on how you’re feeling.
So many clients say this is the moment they start to relax fully and realise they’re going to love their images.
There is no clock watching. I allow enough time for you to feel settled and confident before we even begin properly.
Some women want something simple and understated. Others want something a little more creative. Both are absolutely fine. This is your session, and we tailor it to you.
If the weather is dry and you’d like a mix of styles, I also have space outside the studio where we can create outdoor maternity portraits.
It’s completely optional, but it’s a lovely way to add variety to your gallery and enjoy a change of scenery, all without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
Pregnancy can bring up a lot of feelings about your body. My role is not just to take photographs, but to help you feel comfortable in your own skin during this moment in time.
You are not expected to feel confident when you arrive. That confidence usually comes naturally during the session, and that’s when the best images happen.
Life moves quickly. A maternity shoot gives you permission to pause and mark this chapter properly.
These photographs are not just about how you look, they’re about how this time felt.
If you’re thinking about booking a maternity photoshoot but feel unsure or nervous, get in touch to chat about your session. I’d love to photograph this moment for you in a way that feels calm, relaxed, and truly enjoyable.
Do I need to know how to pose during a maternity photoshoot?
No. I guide you through the entire session, showing you where to stand, where to place your feet, what to do with your hands, and how to gently move or turn your body. Most of the time, you don’t even need to look at the camera.
I feel nervous about being photographed. Will the session feel awkward?
Not at all. My maternity sessions are calm, relaxed, and unhurried. Clients often tell me the studio has a very calming energy, and I take things at your pace, with time to settle in, take breaks, and feel comfortable.
Can I see some of the photos during the maternity shoot?
Yes. I often show a few images on the back of the camera as we go. This really helps you relax and see how lovely you look, and most clients say it boosts their confidence during the session.
Can I have outdoor maternity portraits as well as studio photos?
Yes. If the weather is dry and you would like a mix of styles, there is space outside the studio where we can create a few outdoor maternity portraits too.
