Jeneba came into my Blantyre studio recently for her maternity shoot, and it was one of those sessions that just flowed. Calm, confident, and very much centred on her and this moment she’s in.
She chose a mix of outfits. One dress from my studio wardrobe and two outfits of her own. That balance worked beautifully. It meant she could enjoy the drama and polish of a studio gown, while also wearing pieces that already felt like her. Nothing forced. Nothing over styled.
This is exactly how I like maternity sessions to feel. Personal. Comfortable. Thought through without being overwhelming.
I have a growing maternity wardrobe here at the studio, chosen specifically to photograph well and flatter real bodies. When clients book, they have the option to choose up to three dresses from my wardrobe, or to mix that with outfits they bring themselves.
Jeneba opted for one of my dresses and then brought two looks of her own. One soft and simple. One more relaxed. That mix gave us variety without the session feeling rushed or complicated.
I always talk clients through what will work best before the shoot. Skin tones, lighting, how fabric moves, what photographs timelessly rather than trend driven. You are never left guessing.
One thing clients often say is how relaxed they feel once the shoot starts. That’s intentional. I guide gently, adjust when needed, and leave space for natural moments to happen. No pressure to perform. No need to know how to pose.
With Jeneba, we created a mix of images. Strong and powerful. Quiet and reflective. Some where she stood alone. Some where she simply held her bump and paused for a moment. Those quieter frames are often the ones clients connect with most later on.
The ideal time is usually between 28 and 34 weeks. Your bump is beautifully defined, and you are generally still comfortable enough to move and pose without feeling drained.
No. You have options. You can choose up to three dresses from my studio wardrobe, bring your own outfits, or mix both. Jeneba chose one studio dress and two of her own outfits, which worked perfectly.
Simple, well-fitting pieces work best. Neutral tones photograph beautifully, but darker colours can be striking too. Avoid heavy patterns or logos. I will guide you on this before your session so you are not left unsure.
Yes. Once you book, you receive guidance on what to wear, how to prepare, and what to expect. I am always happy to chat things through if you are unsure.
Around one hour. This gives us time to move through outfit changes without rushing and to keep the session calm and enjoyable.
Yes. If you would like a few images together, that can absolutely be included. Some clients prefer solo images only. Both are completely fine.
All maternity sessions take place in my Blantyre studio. I also have an outdoor space that can be used when the weather allows, but studio sessions are popular for their privacy and consistency.
Completely. Most of my clients say this at the start. My job is to guide you, slow things down, and make the experience feel easy. You do not need to know how to pose or what to do.
Jeneba’s session is a great example of how flexible these shoots can be. You do not have to fit into a box. Whether you want something bold, something simple, or a mix of both, we plan it around you.
If you are expecting and thinking about a maternity shoot in Glasgow or Lanarkshire, get in touch to chat it through. I will talk you through your options and help you decide what feels right for you.
