Including Big Brothers and Sisters in Your Newborn Session

When you come in for your newborn session, it’s not just about your new baby.
It’s about your whole family and those first special moments you’re all sharing together.

I absolutely love including siblings in my newborn sessions.
There’s nothing quite like seeing a proud big brother or sister cuddling their new baby for the very first time.

How I Involve Siblings

When you arrive at the studio, I’ll always make sure big brothers and sisters feel included straight away.
I’ll have a little chat with them, show them around, and explain what we’re going to do in a way they’ll understand.

I usually take sibling photos early in the session, while everyone is fresh and happy.
Once we've captured those lovely moments, little ones can relax, play, or even pop out for a walk with a parent if they need a break.

I never expect young children to sit perfectly still or pose for ages.
I’ll guide them into natural, loving moments — a cuddle, a kiss, or just sitting close by their new baby brother or sister.
Whatever feels right for them.

Keeping It Stress-Free

Every child is different.
Some are so excited to hold their new sibling, while others are a bit unsure at first — and that’s completely normal.

I always work with their personality.
Whether they’re shy, full of energy, or somewhere in between, I’ll take my time and go at their pace.
There’s no rush and no pressure.

The best sibling photos often come from a little glance, a gentle touch, or a giggle — not from asking them to sit still and smile.
Those are the real memories you'll treasure the most.

Including You Too

If you'd like to jump into a few photos yourself, I’ll make sure to capture some lovely family shots too.
You don’t need to worry about posing — I’ll gently guide you so it feels natural and relaxed.

Simple, heartfelt family images often end up being some of the most loved photos from a newborn session.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about capturing this new chapter in your family’s life, just as it is.

What to Bring for Siblings

If you're bringing toddlers or younger children, a few little things can help the session go smoothly:

• A snack and drink
• A favourite toy or book
• Maybe even a tablet or something small to keep them entertained after their photos

I recommend dressing siblings in comfortable clothes they like to wear.
Soft, neutral colours work beautifully in photos, but the most important thing is that they feel happy and relaxed.

Welcoming a new baby is such a big moment for your whole family.
I love being able to capture not just the tiny details of your newborn, but the love, pride, and excitement that already surrounds them.
